Throughout his decades of research, Eric P. Newman contributed to countless different areas of numismatics. One such area was Hard Times Tokens; unofficially issued in the late 1830s to create small change for commerce, they were poorly documented. Newman solved some of the mysteries regarding this highly varied series, with a special focus on the "Am I Not a Man and a Brother" token.
