Alan V. Weinberg comments: Splendid semi-prooflike near Unc 1873 quarter with reverse peripheral legends effaced and hand-engraved " U.S. Ship of the Line Virginia. Keel Laid, 1821. Broke Up, 1874. " Smashed presumably on a reef. Superbly hand-engraved and certainly unique. No evidence on the reeded edge of any suspension attachment ever having been present.

Alan V. Weinberg comments: Silver/enamel. Spanish-American War. A matched pair. Utterly perfect and a match for the Dewey. I've never seen another. Are there any other similar pieces for a larger set of S-A naval heroes?.

Alan V. Weinberg comments: Silver/enamel. Spanish-American War. Immaculate and possibly unique. Exquisitely hand-painted. This and the next ex-Sal Falcone at Long Beach. He liked 'em too and we had never seen another. Over 100 yrs numismatic experience between us.

Alan V. Weinberg comments: A minutely hand-engraved ship on fire scene with inscription in French commemorating the ship's "conflagration" in 1793. A famous oldtime French coin dealer (I forgot his name momentarily but he is the "Godfather" of 20th century French numismatics) was so impressed by it when he examined it while visiting the Long Beach coin show that he chased me around the bourse floor, in his mid-80's, insisting that I sell it to him. Alas, I had just acquired it minutes earlier. Ex Dick Heller.

Alan V. Weinberg comments: A magnificently hand-engraved and massive (filling the outstretched hand) silver English medal awarded in 1840 to an officer of the Managers and Overlookers Society for his work in the society and for his success in the "Cotton Trade". The? medal obv and rev has numerous old English hallmarks? and depicts in minute detail the workings of a textile processing machine. I don't usually buy or collect "foreign" medals but John Sallay, sensing my taste,? brought this medal to my attention on a Massachusetts antique shop website and I made a counteroffer which was accepted. It took my breath away when it arrived. Good decision.
