The JR-3 variety is identified by the position of star 8 placed high by Liberty's cap and the serif of the second S in STATES over the right edge of the right upright of U in PLURIBUS. The JR-3 is somewhat scarce in circulated grades, and high-grade pieces are quite elusive. 1840 H10C No Drapery MS65 NGC. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Potent luster is among the attributes this lovely Gem possesses. Although the toning is attractive on both sides, the obverse is gorgeous, displaying shades of vibrant orange at much of the periphery with hues of blue, purple, and yellow-gold at the center. Small splashes of cherry-red and apple-green are also present. The reverse displays blue-green, yellow-gold and vivid orange overall, with a few tiny areas of red and green appearing as well.
