- 1853 50C Arrows and Rays AU55 NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. Arrowheads were placed on each side of the date in 1853 to indicate a weight reduction from 206.25 grains to 192 grains. Prior to this weight reduction, minor coinage was generally not found in circulation as its intrinsic value was greater than its face value. After the Mint Act of 1853, dimes, quarters, and half dollars began to circulate freely in the channels of commerce. This deeply toned half dollar shows slight high-point friction and the bright surfaces are toned deep rose with accents of blue-green. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $2.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $793.13 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.

- 1852-O 50C VF35 NGC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1852-O is a very scarce issue, undoubtedly because of heavy circulation in the prewar South of the mere 144,000 pieces struck. Wiley-Bugert state this is: "The scarcest O-mint, excluding some of the early rare varieties." Even wear is seen over the devices, and the surfaces show distinctive gray-violet toning with lighter colored streaks seen across obverse and reverse. The only notable interruption in the surfaces is a thin planchet lamination on the left (facing) arm of Liberty; it resembles two parallel scratches but close examination shows a thin strip of metal above the surface of the coin. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $6.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $734.38 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.

St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $1.25; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $217.38 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.

- 1849-O 50C AU55 NGC. CAC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1849-O had mintage of 2.3 million pieces, a large enough production run that one would think higher grade examples would be more available than they are. However, pieces are remarkably difficult to locate in AU and Mint State, especially with minimally marked surfaces. This Choice AU example displays deep reddish-gray patina over each side. Close examination reveals a few abrasions, but none are worthy of individual mention. The strike details are slightly soft over the high points. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $5.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $734.38 .
