- 1848 50C AU58 NGC. CAC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. The 1848 is an interesting issue with Wiley-Bugert expressing the opinion that because of the small mintage (580,000 pieces) and the larger number of die marriages known, either the mintage per die pairing was unusually low or the mintage figure incorrect. This is a well-struck example with deep, blue-gray toning over each side. Friction interrupts the toning on the obverse, accenting the thigh of Liberty and left (facing) breast. Ex: " Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $1,116.25 . - 1847-O 50C AU58 NGC. CAC. WB-101. More than 2.5 million pieces were struck of the 1847-O half dollar, yet only 50 or so examples are finer than AU58. This piece shows just a slight bit of friction over the leg of Liberty on the obverse and tips of the feathers on the reverse. Deep blue-gray toning is seen over most of the obverse with occasional flashes of original brilliance. The reverse displays light gray patina overall with deeper accents in the fields around the eagle's head. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $1,116.25 . - 1847-O 50C AU50 NGC. Normal Date and Mintmark. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. With a mintage in excess of 2.5 million pieces, the 1847-O is one of the few New Orleans halves available for type purposes. And this original example would make a perfect type coin. Each side shows multiple layers of gray, blue, and reddish patina with untoned silver accents surrounding the devices. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $2.00; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $352.50 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.

- 1847 50C AU58 NGC. CAC. WB-101. Ex: "Col." E.H.R. Green. This piece exhibits a strong strike, a trait commonly seen on 1847s, as noted in Wiley-Bugert. Both obverse and reverse are refreshingly free from abrasions, making this an excellent No Motto type candidate. Toned in deep shades of gray, blue, and rose in the same proportions on each side. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. Green; Green Estate; Partnership of Eric P. Newman / B.G. Johnson d.b.a. St. Louis Stamp & Coin Co.; Eric P. Newman @ $7.50; Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $763.75 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.
