1871 2C MS66 Red and Brown NGC. CAC. There was a steady decline in the number of business strike two cent pieces struck each year. Curiously, the first year was the apex of production. By 1871 there were still 721,250 pieces produced, but few were saved. This is especially true for high-grade coins. NGC has only graded nine in MS66 Red and Brown, and none are numerically finer at either service (10/13). This piece is very close to full red color. Each side is just slightly and evenly mellowed. The strike is strong throughout. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $4,700.00 . Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.
