- Fr. 1850-H $5 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note. PCGS Choice New 63PPQ. Only a collector with such catholic tastes as Eric Newman would possess a holding encompassing rarities from Colonial coins and currency through fabulous early U.S. coins, and from Obsolete currency through small size rarities, including a pair of lovely St. Louis $5 Federal Reserve Bank Notes. This piece is every bit the equal of its sibling offered in the previous lot and, with a tiny bit more bottom margin, would be found in a Gem New 66PPQ holder. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $4,230.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19954. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Fr. 1850-H $5 1929 Federal Reserve Bank Note. PCGS Choice New 63PPQ. The St. Louis $5 Federal Reserve Bank Note is one of two keys to the series in this denomination. Scarce but available in most grades, it becomes a major rarity in this state of preservation, as attested to by a perusal of offerings listed in Track & Price over the past decade. Other than a single Gem 66 example (which we sold as part of the Greensboro holdings for over $16,000 two years ago) the only Uncirculated St. Louis $5 FRBNs available at public sale were a single Choice specimen in our 2008 Flynn sale and a Gem which we sold in our massive February 2005 small size offering. The Newman Collection offers a pair of Choice examples, both of which are amazingly original, with bold embossing easily visible through the PCGS holder. If rarity and desirability are any guide, expect a realization in the vicinity of the current Schwartz and Lindquist catalogue valuation of $10,000 in Choice Uncirculated condition. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Realized $2,820.00. Newman VI (Heritage Auctions, 4/2015), lot 19953. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
