- Austin, TX - Corporation of the City of Austin $1 Undated (Ca. 1840's) Olson 1118, Medlar 170. PCGS Very Good 10 Apparent. This is an extremely rare Texas Republic period corporation note. Printed on white rag paper by Whiting's Press, Austin with the imprint discretely placed in the right cartouche. The wide left end panel shows the Seated Liberty image from the coin in a circular frame between framed single stars. The title is across, with obligation underneath. Payable in "Promissory Notes of the Republic" is within the obligation. With two signatures. The only $1 note we handled was raw "Very Good" overall with a couple of tiny holes and some minor fraying at the right edge. We handled that Steve Ivy Texas Collection note twice. Initially it realized $489 in September 2002; the note doubled in value, bringing $988 at the 2006 Long Beach sale. We are aware of no other sale records of the type. Noted as "Severed and Repaired; Repaired Tears and Damage." The repairs on the back make the note mostly whole, and the soiling is moderate considering the circulation. There are few opportunities to obtain this rarity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $2350.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18583. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- (Anderson), TX - Treasurer of Grimes County $3 Jan. 16, 1862 Medlar-UNL. PCGS Fine 12. The interest in the Newman Collection Texas Obsolete currency at the Part VI sale in April 2015 was overwhelming. The iconic images of Texas historical events are familiar to the general public from their depictions in books, television and film. Texas currency often reflects that imagery, and provides tangible artifacts of the state's history, geography, and culture. This Newman Part VII sale section, like the initial offering in April 2015, is organized alphabetically by city, and includes notes from the Republic and Civil War eras. Grimes County notes are rarely offered, and this type is printed on the back of engraved Galveston original draft forms. With no imprint and the same series as Medlar 9. A train vignette is seen at top center. At the left end, the textual denomination is perpendicular. The hatched line red overprint shows "GRIMES COUNTY." in two lines. This denomination was not in our William "Bill" Bond Collection sale in January 2007 at FUN. Texas county specialists will see this solid note as a great opportunity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $822.50. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18582. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Sparta, TN - T.L. Sperry - The Individual Bank 50 Cents April 24, 1862 Garland 1212var. PCGS Very Good 10. The mirror image Seated Liberty half dollar obverse vignettes in each corner appear to have been created by actual coins being driven into the wood block plate. This is the same date as the yellow paper Sperry scrip note from the Newman Collection, but the series and paper is a little different. Printed on the back of a white paper bond or draft form (visible floral corner). An agricultural motif is seen at the top center with various agricultural implements. Across the center is an added title THE INDIVIDUAL BANK. Bottom corners show bolded "50" counters in small cartouches. Signed by Sperry, and the notes were secured by special deposit at the Bank of Tennessee. The note is quite bright for the technical grade. One of the most interesting United State coin vignetted notes encountered. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $822.50. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18581. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
