- Albion, IL - Exchange Bank $1.25 Nov. 5, 1862 IL-10 G2a. PCGS Very Fine 20. This is an unusual denomination to see from Illinois and the bank, unlike most Illinois banks, existed during the Civil War. Though its closing in 1865 and fate are unknown, presumably most of these notes registered with the state auditor's office were redeemed. A full American Bank Note Co. imprint is in the top border. The top center shows an eagle, with the Stars and Stripes shield, under the arced title. Upper corners show 1 ? counters on lathe work. The auditor's seal is at lower left and a portrait of a young woman at lower right. This is very pleasing grade and a great rarity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $1175.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18292. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Wailuku, H.I. - Provisional Government Will Pay ___or Bearer $1 Nov. 2, 1893. PCGS Gem New 66PPQ. This very mysterious 1893 Provisional scrip has never before been seen by noted Hawaiian specialists. Printed on white bond paper, it has a very distinctive embossed orange seal at the left with motto surrounding. The motto, UA MAU KE EAOKA AINA IKA PONO (The Life of the Land is Perpetuated in Righteousness), is not structured perfectly and seems to be a mistake. It is also unusual that this is from Maui. However, the note has been in the Newman Collection for multiple decades and appears to be from the 1893 period based on its paper, printing and seal embossing. Now being offered at auction for the first time, it is certain to elicit much discussion among specialists. A fascinating Hawaiian note worthy of further research. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $2820.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18291. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- (Kingdom of Hawaii) - Lahainaluna Seminary Hookahi Dala/$1.00 No Date (1843-1844) Medalf & Russell-PE-15. PCGS Very Fine 30. Hawaiian numismatics has intrigued many and these rare and early cardboard notes are very historic. Protestant missionaries came to Hawaii in 1823 and soon discovered that there was no written form of the Hawaiian language. Therefore, they formed a committee that created the written form that is still in use today. They also convinced the Hawaiian Royal family to create an educational system. The missionaries established the Lahainaluna Seminary in 1831, which is still in existence today as the Lahainaluna High School. It is the oldest public school west of the Rocky Mountains. In 1834 the Hale Pa'i or house of printing was founded on their property. This served as the home of Hawaii's first printing press. The first newspaper printed west of the Rocky Mountains was printed here, plus English and Hawaiian language books. This is the largest size note of six different created. Uniface, printed from a copper plate using secret marks, and backed on cardboard to make it rigid. This denomination portrays a map of Hawaiian Islands and a flag. There are petty surface scuffs and backed on piece of black paper added late. This is early, historic and it has wide appeal. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $3290.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18290. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Savannah, GA - Mechanics Savings Bank of Savannah $10 July 1, 1859 GA-310 G8a. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. This issued $10 note is from the Bald, Adams & Co., New-York/Bald, Cousland & Co., Philadelphia plate and is the prototype of what became the 1861 Confederate Type 23 note after the plates were altered in Richmond. In the vignette at top center, two horses, with heads down and wearing blinders, pull a wagon through the town. The driver is seated upon a bale of cotton. A man's portrait is in the oval at lower left; at lower right, a farmer carries stalks of grain as a child crawls around behind him. A red TEN protector is at bottom center. Noted only with some trivial "Minor Rust Stains at Top Left." A solid and rare example. This note is also essential to the serious Confederate collector. Ex: Eric P. - Augusta, GA - Bridge Company of Augusta $100 18__ GA-45 G28. Proof. PCGS About New 50 Apparent. Though low grade issued notes from this banking company are available, proofs are extremely rare, and we believe this $100 India paper proof engraved by Leney & Rollinson is unique. Using a custom vignette for the bank series, a fierce looking eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch flies above the bridge in the top center vignette. Tollbooths and gatekeepers are at either end to allow passengers entry. Shimmering moir? patterns provide the background for the end panels with ONE HUNDRED perpendicular; at left, the type is reversed out for a white on black effect while at right, the denomination is black on white and italicized. This faces up as a stunning example, and the proof denomination was not in the Alan Dorris Georgia Obsolete note collection, the finest ever formed. Noted only with some "Mounting Remnants on Back." This note possesses great style and rarity. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $3290.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18288. - Athens, GA - Georgia Rail Road & Banking Co. $10 18__ GA-10 G26. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63. This is a rare series and choice India paper on card proof by Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty. The original 1833 charter was for a railroad headquartered in Athens. That charter was amended in 1835 to allow for the company to operate a bank, and in 1840 the company's headquarters was moved from Athens to Augusta. The main vignette at top center shows a double-decker passenger train rolling down the tracks past a farmhouse; a detail from the picture appears at the right end in an oval frame between identical "10" counters on lathe work. The left end panel shows a perpendicular TEN on a background that resembles carved scrollwork. This is a great rarity and the Alan Dorris collection note we sold in the 2015 FUN Signature sale in January realized $2,820 graded PCGS About New 58PPQ. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled" and "Mounted on Cardstock" by PCGS. This is stylish, very rare and important. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $2585.00. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18287. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
