- Continental Currency May 9, 1776 $4 Fr. CC-34. PCGS Superb Gem New 68PPQ. This stunning May 9, 1776 Continental Currency $4 denomination is the finest graded by PCGS by two full grades. Directly below this mesmerizing Boar example are three PCGS Gem New 66PPQ notes. This incredible note dwarfs those and boasts all the characteristics you would demand from a note nearing perfection. The well-inked emblem showing the boar charging into a spear shows the motto AUT MORS AUT VITA DECORA (Either death or an honorable life). Margins beyond ample are perfectly even, and each corner tip is razor sharp. The printing on both sides is vibrant, deep and wondrous to the eye. This is an example for a premium set of Continental Currency notes or for the collector who seeks the very best. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $11750.00. - Continental Currency February 17, 1776 $2/3 Fr. CC-22. PCGS Choice About New 58. The ever-popular February 17, 1776 Fugio fractional notes are becoming difficult to obtain in high grades. This A plate $2/3 note has the face appeal of Choice New or finer. The margins are even and most are wide. The back is also well centered and registered to the face well. Strong printing, particularly on the chain and central motto, enhances the bright appearance. There are some very faint wisps of foxing on this note, rather scattered and difficult to notice. Many lesser notes have been breaking the $1,000 mark with ease, and this example boasts a great pedigree. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $1468.75. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18237. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.
