- Pennsylvania April 29, 1780 10 Shillings Fr. PA-226. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. This is an intriguing and very rare series printed by John Dunlap, with examples rarely offered for sale or even seen. This was an interest bearing issue, at the rate of 5%, and to be redeemed in "Silver Dollars." Most were redeemed, and the issue was not repudiated after the Revolution, as were all the other early states' obligations. The Boyd Collection contained five different denominations, which were acquired over decades: a remarkable achievement. This is a superior example, and we believe it to be finer than Boyd's. Noted with "Small Edge Splits; Stains," with those stains more visible on the back. This is a rarely seen type in any grade, and only comprehensive collections have held any examples. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $763.75. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18191. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Pennsylvania April 10, 1777 6 Shillings Black Fr. PA 218a. PCGS Very Choice New 64PPQ. This is a strictly Uncirculated and Choice example, thus a condition rarity. The just short of perfect back centering prevents a full Gem designation. The face margins are broad, widest at the end. Surfaces are immaculate. This is the only Uncirculated note graded by PCGS for the type, and the top population example at that service. A superb example and underrated in such a flawless state of preservation. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $881.25. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18190. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Pennsylvania April 10, 1777 1 Shilling Black Fr. PA-213a. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. The April 10, 1777 shilling denominated notes were a radical departure in size and design from previous series. The notes were wider format and printed in black or in red and black. Though black denomination types are generally easier to find, strictly Uncirculated notes, especially Gem, are very rarely offered. This is the only Uncirculated example graded by PCGS and is obviously the top population note for the type. This shilling note has the added plus of its full sheet edge at the top. A nearly perfect example with immaculate surfaces and spot-on face-to-back registration. A condition rarity and worthy of liberal bidding. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society Realized $1762.50. Newman VII (Heritage Auctions, 10/2015), lot 18189. Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions.

- Pennsylvania April 3, 1772 2 Shillings John Morton Signature Fr. PA-156. PCGS Very Fine 20. This is the fourth John Morton signature type offered here, and we note that only a collector with the stature of Eric P. Newman would have multiple denominations from a scarce Signer of the Declaration of Independence: quite an achievement. This is a two-sided horizontal format type with a nature print back. The bold Morton signature appears at the top of the signature block on this note; only honest wear is seen. Another excellent Morton note. The tremendous selection here provides a great opportunity.
