- Heath Counterfeit Detector Second Pocket Edition, Newman 2-P-s-SpecialBoston and Washington: Heath, 1866. Second edition. 16mo, original blindstamped russet cloth; front cover lettered sideways in gilt; rear cover lettered in three lines: PUBLISHED FOR EASTMAN'S COLLEGE / [decorative device] / PRICE 4.00. 39, (1) pages; 2 unnumbered fractional currency plates; unnumbered folding plate showing both sides of a counterfeit $10 First National Bank of Philadelphia note in green and black; unnumbered folding plate showing both sides of a counterfeit $20 Fourth National Bank of New York note in green and black; 16 numbered engraved plates mostly depicting bank note design elements, numbered 1-15 and 17, with original tissue guards, plates 2 and 5 serving as frontispieces, plate 5 printed in green ink, plate 15 being an engraved folding Heath bank note facsimile [plate number 16 not present in this variant]; several plate numbers overprinted. Latest Recommendation dated Dec. 2, 1867. The missing $100 counterfeit was probably originally present, though this is not certain; plate 16 was probably never present. Printed label affixed to front pastedown being a "Notice to Agent" from the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, dated April 20, 1869, claiming this copy as the Railroad's property and entrusting the care of it and an accompanying magnifier to their responsibility. A most interesting copy of a very rare special edition, not listed as such in Eric P. Newman's article. This is the copy from which he assigned the designation. Binding badly spotted, with very worn spine; several signatures sprung or wholly detached, though present. Good. Estimate $600. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15262 (realized $3840). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=11139

- Heath Counterfeit Detector Second Pocket Edition, Newman 2-P-s-7 Boston and Washington: Heath, 1866.
