- King Koin Sorter. Fine. A rectangular, open-top metal box containing five plastic trays with different sized holes in the bottoms of each tray. Used to sort U.S. silver and copper coins from cent to half dollar. The action of this simple device was as follows: A large quantity of mixed-denomination change was deposited in the top tray, and the device was shaken back and forth; half dollars would remain trapped in the top tray, as they would not fit through the quarter-sized holes in the bottom; similarly, quarters would remain trapped in the next tray, nickels in the next, and so on, until dimes fell through to the bottom tray, which had no holes. The Box is inscribed KING KOIN SORTER/PATENT PENDING/OMAHA NEBRASKA. Measurements are approximately 11.5 x 6 x 7 inches. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15757 (realized $45). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=11892
