- 1785 Imitation British Halfpenny, VF Newman 51-85C Plate ObverseUntil the last decade, it was believed that the 1785 imitation halfpence were produced in England for circulation in America. However, many examples have been found in old English collections, suggesting that these pieces may have circulated on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. The obverse is plated in Eric's 1988 article. The reverse of this piece is far finer than the plate for Reverse 85C in the new reference, Contemporary Counterfeit Halfpenny & Farthing Families. Mahogany patina appears on the olive-brown surfaces of this attractive piece. We note a small mark in the right obverse field. Otherwise, both sides are pleasing. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15044 (realized $840). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=12007

- 1785 Imitation British Halfpenny, Fine Newman 50-85A Plate CoinIn his 1988 article, Eric P. Newman identified three obverse dies and three reverse dies that were combined to create five varieties. Since then, one additional obverse die and one reverse die have been discovered. Research has shown multiple marriages among those dies for a total of 10 die varieties. This is the plate coin for obverse 50 and reverse 85A in Eric's article. It is also the plate coin to illustrate Obverse 50 in Contemporary Counterfeit Halfpenny & Farthing Families. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15043 (realized $4560). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=12008

- 1781 Imitation British Halfpenny, XF Newman 42-81C Plate ObverseThe obverse is plated in Eric's 1988 article. This example is clearly finer than the plate coin in Contemporary Counterfeit Halfpenny & Farthing Families. We have no records of ever handling this variety before, and it is possibly the finest known. Both sides exhibit glossy olive-brown surfaces with minimal handling evidence. An exceptional opportunity for the highly advanced specialist. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15041 (realized $4800). - The Finest Known 1776 Rubber LadyBritannia's arms and legs have an elastic appearance that gives this halfpence family its name. The family currently consists of eight varieties from four obverse dies and five reverse dies dated 1761, 1769, 1769 (Ireland), and 1776. This example is the finest known of either 1776-dated variety, and is possibly the finest known for the Rubber Lady family. Some strike weakness is evident, although the olive-brown surfaces are virtually flawless. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15040 (realized $5040). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=12001
