- Remarkable 1771 Peck-ZZ Halfpenny, VFThis rare, popular, and remarkable imitation halfpence has the central designs facing the wrong direction, with the date and lettering mostly backward. Starting at 5 o'clock, and observing from outside the coin, the legend reads counterclockwise GEO(R)GI(V)S III (R)EX with both Rs inverted and the V over an inverted V. BRITANNIA also has a mixture of regular and inverted letters, reading counterclockwise from 5 o'clock. The date is backward. This semi-glossy olive-brown example has smooth and problem-free surfaces, save for a tiny rim bump over the middle I in III. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15035 (realized $1560). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=12003

- (Circa-1850) Massachusetts Pine Tree Twopence Silver Wyatt Copy, Noe-N, MS62This rare Thomas Wyatt die pairing is cataloged as fabrication variety N by Sydney P. Noe in his 1952 Pine Tree reference. The reverse die is shared with Kenney-6, which has an Oak Tree obverse. The obverse die is shared with Kenney-5, Noe-M, which has a threepence reverse. The Whitman colonial Encyclopedia further muddles the matter under W-14030 with an incorrect claim that Noe-N and Kenney-6 have the same obverse. This typically struck example has cream-gray high points and gunmetal fields. The obverse is moderately misaligned toward 12 o'clock, while the reverse is slightly misaligned toward 6 o'clock. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15034 (realized $1800). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=11718

- New England Sixpence Imitation, AU58 Newman-NJ Plate Coin31.5 gn. The plate coin for the variety in Eric Newman's classic numismatic detective reference, The Secret of the Good Samaritan Shilling. According to Newman, Henry Chapman first discussed the copy in the November 1911 issue of The Numismatist. The copy is not deceptive, since the N in NE more closely resembles the letter K. Lime-green undertones emerge from smooth and glossy cream-gray surfaces. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15033 (realized $1320). - (Circa-1861) New England Elephant Token Kenney-5 Robinson Copy Copper-Nickel, MS64The Whitman Encyclopedia lists both the brass and nickel varieties as W-15210, and makes no mention of copper-nickel examples. Since the authentic W-12140 New England Elephant token is extremely rare, it was a logical candidate for Alfred S. Robinson to copy. The dies were made by Boston engraver Joseph Merriam. This is a well-struck Choice prooflike example with light sea-green and pink-red toning across the reverse field. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Heritage Auctions 11/2018 (Newman XI), lot15032 (realized $1440). Heritage link: http://www.ha.com/c/item.zx?saleNo=1283&lotIdNo=11714
