- Milford, DE - Farmers and Mechanics Bank $20 Jan. 2, 1864 DE-30 G14a. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. Low denominations from this bank are frequently encountered; however, this high denomination $20 is rare. We have only seen a few in over three decades. A boldly vignetted note engraved by the American Bank Note Company. At top center is a wide scene of a long rescue boat being launched from shore to save a foundering ship. In the distance, lightning flashes from the clouds. At the lower left is a man carrying an axe in a shipyard, and at the lower right is a male portrait used for this bank. A red 20 protector is at bottom center. This late date note is pleasant enough considering some flaws. Noted are "Tape Repairs on Back; Edge and Internal Splits and Tears." Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $399.50

- Westport, MA - Town of Westport, Payable by the Cashier, Merchants Bank, New Bedford 25 Cents Dec. 1, 1862. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. An extremely rare and desirable coastal Massachusetts scrip note, and the first we have seen.
