- Fort Smith, AR - Emrich & Pope 25 Cents Sept. 25, 1862 Rothert 229-1. PCGS Very Fine 30. An exceedingly rare private scrip note, perhaps unique, with a Rothert listing but no photo available. He likely refers to this superb example from the Newman Collection. Printed on white paper, without imprint (Foster, Printer, Fort Smith?), and similar in style to the Mitchell notes from this location. A pattern border is around typeset text. Denomination counters are in the upper corners. Exceptional grade, bright and bold with a sharp signature and red serial number. A beauty! Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $1175.00

- Fayetteville, AR - Holcomb & Barnard-Barnard's Drug Store $2.50 Jan. 17, 1862 Rothert 198-12. PCGS Fine Very Fine 20 Apparent. This is a great odd denomination scrip note with an apothecary title and vignette combination. Printed on very thin brown paper. The paper quality is excellent for the type of scrip note. An ornamental border is all around with a mortar and pestle vignette at the left. Payable in "Confederate Notes." Holcomb signing as "Cashier" is curious, and perhaps the pair acted as private bankers as well. Countersigned on the back by Barnard. Noted with some "Small Edge Tears" that are confined to the far right wide margin. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $564.00

- Clarksville, AR - M. Rose, Son & Carey 25 Cents March 1, 1862 Rothert 122-1. PCGS Very Fine 25. A sharp-grade note from a complex series of Civil War scrip issued by Moreau Rose, Son and Carey. There appear to be several dates for the notes, and the Rothert listings should be considered open to interpretation. However, he did consider the notes all "Rarity-7" with one to five known each. Printed on white paper with a small dog and safe vignette at the top. The ornate left end panel has the denomination in a cartouche. This is a bright and bold note with a sharply defined signature. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $305.50
