- Batesville, AR - Branch of the Bank of the State of Arkansas $10 Post Note Nov. 1, 1838 AR-10-UNL, Rothert 31-7. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. This $10 Batesville Post Note type is unlisted in Haxby, but is listed and plated in the Rothert reference. An exceedingly rare and possibly unique note. Engraved and printed by Rawdon, Wright, & Hatch with a busy layout. At the upper right is a steamboat heading in the opposite direction from a wagon on shore loaded with bales. At the left end are several milkmaids enclosed in a circle. A classical male figure is seated at the right end with a dog. Fully signed and issued, payable "Twelve Months" after date. There is a period pen endorsement on the back. Noted by PCGS are "Minor Edge Damage; Small Edge Tears," but they are not severe. This not only boasts the Newman Collection pedigree, it is the Rothert plate note. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016).
