- Montgomery, AL - Farmers Bank of Alabama $5 July 8, 1862 AL-70 G8a, Rosene 237-2. PCGS Very Fine 30. An extremely well-margined example of this bank type printed by Jules Manouvrier in New Orleans. At the center are agricultural and trade items, with a green FIVE protector slightly overlapping. This was a registered series and has a state comptroller signature at the left. - Montgomery, Al - E. R. McCrory & Co., Bankers $1 Nov. 1, 1862 Rosene-UNL. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. The issuer is unlisted in Rosene, and this is a bright, vibrant example. A train steams west at the center under the arced title. Perpendicular at the left is another, differently styled train. This is the third example we have handled and it is superior to the others. - Montgomery, Al - Central Bank of Alabama $10 Dec. 1, 1859 AL-65 G16b, Rosene 231-8. PCGS Very Fine 30. A crisp and bright example of this well-vignetted Baldwin, Bald, & Cousland/ Bald, Cousland & Co. engraved note. The wide vignette across the top shows a city view, expanding as it progresses left into a plantation scene showing a slave with an overflowing cotton basket. Washington is at the lower right. Blue ink overstamping is at the right. Well margined, and top grade for a note usually encountered in Very Good or less. Ex: Eric P. - Montgomery, Al - State of Alabama $5 Jan. 1, 1864 Cr.15. PCGS Gem New 65PPQ. A stellar grade example of this lower denomination type from this lithographed series printed by J. T. Paterson & Co., Augusta, Georgia. The overseer supervising the slaves seen at the top center was copied from Toppan, Carpenter & Co. (most notably seen on Adrian Insurance Company, Michigan). The lower left shows standing Liberty. The lower right has the common face vignette of the tree and map. This is one of the finest we have seen, with most bothered by bent corners or poor trimming.
