- St. Paul, MN - Dayton Bank Uncut Sheet of $1-$1-$2-$5 185_ MN-135 G2a-G2-G4a-G6a, Hewitt D1b-D1b-D2b-D5b. Remainder. PCGS About New 50. The Dayton Bank remainder notes are the most frequently seen banknotes from the state, but they appear as uncut sheets only infrequently; this is only the fourth we have cataloged since 2004. Lymen Dayton, pictured on each denomination, had grand intentions for his eponymous bank. However, Dayton did circulate a few notes, and by 1859, the state reported them as worthless. The Danforth, Wright & Co. engraving is exquisite. On each note, Dayton's custom portrait is supported by vignettes. The $1 note has the family groups so often contrasted, the $2 note shows Plenty and Navigation, and the $5 note has two stunning trios of allegorical females at the top. The minor handling is seen from the back on this gorgeous, full-selvedge sheet. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $399.50

- Detroit, MI - State Bank of Michigan Uncut Sheet of $1-$2-$3-$5 MI-160 G2a-G4a-G6a-G8a, Lee DET-10-1-2-3-4. Remainder. PCGS About New 53PPQ. This is a riveting, full-color sheet by the American Bank Note Company. A predecessor of the First National Bank of Detroit, charter 97, the State Bank of Michigan was organized in 1859. This extremely popular series clearly demonstrates the concept behind the patented "Lymen's Protection" tinting compartment devices used on notes. The vertical bar dividing the design is located farther to the left as the denominations progress; the $2 note has equal compartments. This was intended to make raising notes from a smaller denomination to a larger denomination impossible. Stunning vignettes include the Michigan arms on the $1, buffalo hunting on the $2, a harvester on the $3, and steamboat on the $5. At present, the title is difficult to find as an uncut sheet. Very bold, and quite a showpiece. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $399.50

- Battle Creek, MI - Bank of Battle Creek Uncut Sheet of $1-$1-$2-$3 18__ MI-65 G2-G2-G4-G6, Lee BAT-1 1-2-3-4. Remainder. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. This is another rarely seen sheet with the classic Rawdon, Wright, & Hatch style used by many Michigan banks. This is only the second sheet of the type we have cataloged, and that was long ago in May 2002 at Rosemont. The notes all have a small vignette at top center and large, circular vignette at left. The $1 notes have a Washington portrait at top center, and Mercury and Moneta at the left; the $2 has a train vignette at top center, and Mercury and Commerce at left; and the $3 note shows the Michigan arms at the top and a farm couple at left. There are some "Small Internal Splits" noted, but the sheet has a bright face. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $352.50

- Ann Arbor, MI - Bank of Washtenaw Uncut Sheet of $20-$50-$__ Post Note-$100 18__ MI-50 G18-G20-G26-G22, Lee ANN-6 13-14-15-16. Remainder. PCGS Choice About New 58PPQ. Though many note types from the bank are commonly encountered, these higher denominations by Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. are not only much scarcer, but as an uncut sheet should be classified as rare. The $20 note has a drovers scene as its main vignette; the $50 shows an allegorical female with a seated angel; the post note has a seated woman with scales; and the $100 displays child Mercury, a dog and a safe. The supporting vignettes on all the notes are in classical style from the late 1830s. This is wide margined as printed, with virtually no handling. Close to being perfect. This is an underrated and rarely offered uncut sheet. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $470.00
