- Richmond, VA - Mineral Bank of Richmond 10 Cents October 4, 1861 Jones & Littlefield PR60-581. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. A second denomination from this interestingly titled and scarce private bank. - Richmond, VA - Mineral Bank of Richmond 5 Cents October 4, 1861 Jones & Littlefield PR60-580. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. A very scarce private bank. Printed on thin blue-gray paper. The Gothic title is across the center. The far left shows a standing statue representing Agriculture, similar to other locally printed Richmond notes. The right end has a fancy column-style cartouche with FIVE CENTS perpendicular. The Jones & Littlefield rarity ratings for this series (Rarity 5 or 6) appear conservative. We have cataloged only one note from the title. Noted with "Edge Splits and Tears." Very sharply engraved, and a very presentable example. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $517.00

- Richmond, VA - Mechanics' Bank $1 September 10, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-575. PCGS Fine 12 Apparent. This is possibly unique, and it is the Jones & Littlefield plate note: the only note listed in that reference from this series date from the bank. A wide format note printed on thin white paper. The Gothic outlined title, "The Mechanics' Bank," is across the top center above ONE DOLLAR. Upper corners have "$1.00" counters. A small dog's head vignette is at bottom center between the signatures. Noted with "Edge and Internal Splits and Tears; Backed" and as the "JL Plate Note." Backed on a piece of period newspaper. The note faces up well despite the wear, and that is academic if the note is unique. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $822.50

- Richmond, VA - Mechanics' Bank $1 September 1, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-573. PCGS Very Fine 25. A third rare Richmond private banknote with this intriguing style printed on white paper. The note has the common style used on the other denominations: a distinctive left end vignette of a thinly draped female plucking a lyre; the ornament at the center of the note used on the Ramos series; title and denomination below; and two signatures at the bottom. This dollar note is bold and problem-free. Tightly margined at the bottom, but broad on the other three sides. A very charming rarity in exemplary condition. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $1410.00
