- Richmond, VA - Mechanics' Bank 25 Cents September 1, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-570. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. This rare Richmond private bank series has an intriguing style. Although listed in the scrip note section, it does have signatures of a cashier and president. Printed on white paper. The 25 cents, 50 cents and $1 notes have a common style with a distinctive left end vignette of a thinly draped female plucking a lyre; the ornament at the center of the note used on the Ramos series; title and denomination below; and two signatures at the bottom. Noted with "Missing UR Corner; Small Edge Tears." The missing upper corner piece just touches the frame line. The note is mostly bright. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $763.75

- Richmond, VA - J. V. Ramos 10 Cents April 2, 1861 Jones & Littlefield PR60-666. PCGS Fine 15. Another scarce scrip printed on brown paper. As above, this is a small format note with a large ornament, but different from that on the 5 cents, at top center over the issuer's name. TEN CENTS is across. The left end has a climbing vine wrapped around a pole as used on the 5 cents. The strong signature of Ramos is at the lower right. A bold example and one of the finest we have seen. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $423.00

- Richmond, VA - Haden & Martin's Home Bank 25 Cents March 1, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-353. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. An amazing third denomination from this series, but printed on white paper rather than brown. The note has the common style used on the series: a long train at top center between the city and date; an arced title just beneath over a serial number banner; the textual denomination across the bottom center; perpendicular "VIRGINIA" in an oval cartouche at far left; and ornate flourishes at the right end. Strong signatures are at the bottom. Noted with "Small Edge and Internal Tears; Minor Rust Stains at Right," but very bright. Estimating Virginia private note rarities is difficult, and notes of this rarity are seldom encountered. The Virginia Newman Collection albums have yielded many such great finds. These notes present a marvelous opportunity for the Virginia specialist. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $2585.00
