- Richmond, VA - Haden & Martin's Home Bank 20 Cents March 1, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-352. PCGS Extremely Fine 40. This is an impressive odd denomination note from a series we have not cataloged. Printed on brown paper. The note has the common style: a long train at top center between the city and date; an arced title just beneath over a serial number banner; the textual denomination across the bottom center; perpendicular "VIRGINIA" in an oval cartouche at far left; and ornate flourishes at the right end. - Richmond, VA - Haden & Martin's Home Bank 12-1/2 Cents March 1, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-350. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. This is the first of three denominations in the Newman Collection, and all are in beautiful condition. Each note is rated as a "7G" in Jones and Littlefield (2-4 known) and our research confirms their great rarity. Printed on brown paper. The notes have a common style: a long train at top center between the city and date; an arced title just beneath over a serial number banner; the textual denomination across the bottom center; perpendicular "VIRGINIA" in an oval cartouche at far left; and ornate flourishes at the right end. Noted with an "Internal Slit at Bottom Right." A gorgeous and very rare "bit" note. This, and the following two, are the first notes from the issue we have cataloged. Ex: Eric P. - Richmond, VA - C. Constant 40 Cents January 13, 1862 Jones & Littlefield PR60-200. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. A locally printed private scrip note on thin blue paper without imprint. The head of a dog is at the top with "40 Cts." on each side. FORTY CENTS is across. The left end shows a standing statue representing Agriculture (similar to the style used on McKeever and Sale Richmond scrip). The right end shows a small oval vignette of a female seated on a wharf. The signature is very bold and legible. Noted with "Pieces Missing; Rust Stains; Edge and Internal Splits; Mounting Remnants on Back." - Richmond, VA - Bank of the Commonwealth $100 July 1, 1861 VA-170 G10a, Jones & Littlefield BR15-46. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. This is a much scarcer denomination from the bank and boasts colorful American Bank Note Company color features. The center vignette displays a woman harvester relaxing in her sun hat, with a train and field in the far background. A portrait of John Marshall is in the lower left. The Virginia seal is at lower right, though the registered line is crossed out in red ink. In bold vermillion are the arced Gothic title at top center, C 100 C protector along the bottom, and top counter surrounds. Noted with some "Rust Stains at Top Left," but crisp and bright.
