The highest denomination Rawdon, Wright & Hatch, New-York/Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, New-Orleans engraved note from this series. At the top center is a group of livestock between "5" dies. At far left is a tall Native American huntress, a sea nymph is in the water at lower right and a plowing scene is at bottom center. - (Montgomery), TX - Treasurer of Montgomery County 50 Cents July 28, 1862 Medlar 6. PCGS Very Fine 35 Apparent. This is a larger size Montgomery County type. It was printed on the back of salmon-tinted drafts, and this color also appears on the face. A common style of the series has a small framed oval vignette at top center showing ships at sail. Above is MONTGOMERY COUNTY SCRIP, and under, in Gothic lettering, "The County Treasurer." Obligations, denominations, and signatures are along the bottom half. At the left end is perpendicular "50 CTS." Noted only with a "Small Edge Split at Top Center." Very bright and pleasant. Ex: Eric P. The note is mostly typeset, with titles, obligations and ONE DOLLAR across. A green ONE protector is in the bottom center. A perpendicular eagle vignette is in the panel at left, and a sailing clipper ship is at the base. A very pleasing note, and excellent for a county type set. Ex: Eric P. The title and obligation are across the center. Ends have decorative panels with alternating lathe work lines. A rich red ONE DOLLAR protector is across the center. The back is endorsed with the treasurer's signature. We have cataloged only three notes from the county, and this is the finest by far. Bold and vibrant. Ex: Eric P. - Jefferson, TX - C. D. Cosner & Co. 10 Cents October 1, 1865 Medlar UNL. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. This striking post-war issue was lithographed by Douglas, N.O. A small format note on white bond paper. Crowned Moneta reclines at top center over the title. Engraved signature is at the bottom. End panels show CENTS on shaded lathe work. A very vibrant red "10" protector is at bottom center. This Union period note was payable in "U. S. Treasury notes." Noted with "Minor Edge Damage at Bottom Left." A scarce and unusual note.
