Engraved and printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson. The Gothic title is at the top. A seated mechanic is at center right, with a smoking factory in the background. At far left end is the emblem of Paddy Mills, Va. with a female portrait in an oval. Commercial goods are above and a train below. Noted with "Hinge Repaired Edge Tears." - Providence, RI - Grocers and Producers Bank $5 October 3, 1865 RI-310 G10a SENC, Durand 1391. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. This is an interesting occupational title and very late 1865 written date. Engraved by the American Bank Note Co., New-York using vignettes originally designed by Wellstood, Hay & Whiting. The top center shows the Rhode Island shield flanked by a farmer and Native American. At lower left, a man rests a long scythe on his shoulder. The lower right has an oval vignette of a sailor. A green protector FIVE is at the bottom. Noted with "Small Tape Repaired Edge Tears." The date is quite late for an Obsolete banknote. Most legitimate banks of the period had already received their Original Series National Bank Notes. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $129.25

- Providence, RI - Exchange Bank $100 18__ RI-290 UNL, Durand UNL. Proof. PCGS About New 50 Apparent. It is an extremely rare occurrence to discover and publish a new major type from Rhode Island. Roger Durand's research was exhaustive, and he listed hundreds of notes that were reported in counterfeit detectors of the period, along with the notes that were verified in collections. This proof is printed on tan paper without imprint, though the style indicates Hamlin. At the bottom center, Hope is seated with an anchor and gestures toward the denomination. Her muscular upraised arm appears rather masculine (particularly since the stippling resembles hair). She rests her index finger lightly on the R in the HUNDRED arced directly above. A perpendicular HUNDRED is on the left end panel and two oval "100" dies are at the top. Noted with "Tape Repaired Edge Splits, Tears, and Damage." Still, quite impressive despite a few faults, and the first we have ever seen. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $1292.50

- Providence, RI - Exchange Bank $2 18__ RI-290 G18 SENC, Durand 1282. Remainder. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. This is a great rarity and not confirmed in Haxby or Durand. Printed on banknote paper, but with the style of an early period proof. It has an excellent impression. There is no imprint, but the style is appears to be Hamlin, who engraved several early Rhode Island types. The small TWO at top center is flanked by circular "2" dies. The bottom left shows an oval cow vignette. The upper right shows Hope standing with an anchor. The left end panel shows a perpendicular Gothic TWO with a curlicue between each letter and flourishes at the ends. This is the first reported note and one of the earlier genuine notes from Rhode Island. Noted with "Tape Repaired Edge Damage at Right; Small Edge Tears." This looks to be a unique example whether classified as a "Remainder" or a "Proof." Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $587.50
