- Alton, RI - Richmond Bank $5 August 12, 1856 RI-425 G8a, Durand 16. PCGS Fine 15 Apparent. A rarer denomination from this bank that issued notes from Richmond and Alton. The fine engraving is by Danforth, Wright & Co. The title is arced at the bottom center with a red "V" protector. Across the top is a large vignette with Plenty at the left, and an angel in the center handing an orb to Navigation at the right. There are additional red numeral "5" protectors at each end beneath the intricate dies. Noted only with some "Rust Stains at Center" that are concealed within the dark printing. Ex: Eric P. - Wilkes-Barre, PA - Wyoming Bank at Wilkes-Barre $5 186_ PA-715 UNL, Hoober UNL. Proof. PCGS About New 50 Apparent. A very boldly executed India paper proof on card by the National Bank Note Company. Simply gorgeous, with the central vignette of Columbia seeming to compete with the vibrant color for the viewer's attention. A young woman wearing a wreath is at left, and a swirling counter is at right. The curving, bisected title slightly impinges on the perpendicular denomination at the ends. Bright vermillion is on the counters and frame, and a lighter color is over the signature blocks. "Hole Punch Cancelled" and "Mounted on Cardstock" as made. Grading notes "Edge Tears and Minor Damage," but this is a glorious proof. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $517.00
