- Independence, MO - P. Roberts, Mail Contractor 25 Cents Undated (1860s). Remainder. PCGS Choice About New 58. An interesting topical scrip note with the issuer name cleverly located on the stagecoach vignette at the top center. The A. McLean lithographed rendering is finely detailed with four formally dressed passengers. The horse teams are well detailed, but running in the "artistic" equine fashion and not as horses actually run. Counters are in the upper corners. The obligation was "Receivable for Stage Fares & other dues." A sharp example of this scarce type. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $199.75

- Vicksburg, MS - Bank of Vicksburg $10 Post Note September 12, 1838 MS-210 G20, Kraus 4400d, Leggett UNL. PCGS Fine 15. A very scarce issued type. In this case, it was converted into a post note by adding a date at the bottom one year after the issuance date at top right. Mercury and Agriculture, engraved by Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty are seated together at top center, seemingly in the midst of a romantic interlude. An "X" counter is at either side. The textual denomination, in elaborate script, is at the ends in white over a gray background. Problem-free and vibrant for the technical grade. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $352.50

This is one of the greatest Mississippi rarities from the period, and it possesses a rustic charm. Lithographed on white paper and without an imprint. Ends are composed of floral border cuts. Hand dated and signed by Simons. Noted as "Stained; Tape Repaired Edge Tears at Right." Exceedingly rare and possibly unique. Ex: Eric P. - Vernon, MS - Commercial & Rail Road Bank of Vicksburg, at their Office Vernon $5 September 1, 1836 MS-205 G44, Kraus 10584b, Leggett 18var. PCGS Fine 15. This is a rare Vicksburg series type and branch, the name of which is written underneath the denomination across the center. An engraved series by Underwood, Bald & Spencer. At top center, Commerce is seated with commercial goods on a wharf. Ships are at sail in the background. Cameo-head counters are linked by the first part of the arced title. The rest of the title is distributed in arcs under the counters. Cameo heads are between "5" blocks at both ends, and an early train vignette is at the base. A very specialized branch note that should be recognized for its importance. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $646.25
