- Clinton, MS - Real Estate Banking Co. of Hinds County $10 Post Note March 4, 1839 MS-40 G28, Kraus 10884c, Leggett UNL. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. Oddly, this denomination was unlisted in the early Leggett book. This Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. printed post note has the written "Five Months after" designation on the vignette. Between "10" counters, seated Agriculture with a sickle is at top center, her hair ornament poking into the arced MISSISSIPPI. At the ends, cotton plants in bloom are between TEN counters above and "10" blocks below. "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back" are noted by grading, but a gorgeous note in all regards. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $117.50

- Clinton, MS - Real Estate Banking Co. of Hinds County $2 Post Note January 1, 1839 MS-40 G10a, Kraus 13881d, Leggett 5var. PCGS Very Fine 30 Apparent. A bright post note type from this Draper, Toppan, Longacre & Co. series. Winged cherubs pull the chariot ridden by Aurora and Cupid through the clouds. A glory of rays is behind and a "2" die is on each side. An elongated, sculptural "2" is on a swath of lathe work at the left. At right, seated Liberty with an eagle and stars and stripes shield holds a Liberty pole; the cap impinges on the arced MISSISSIPPI above, in the area of the second I and third S. (This is a device common on other issues from this title, where Hope's hair, Minerva's helmet and Agriculture's hair ornament encroach on the state name). "Cross-Cut Cancelled," and noted with "Hinge Repaired Cancellations; Hinge Remnants on Back." Very pleasing from the face. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $89.00

- (Corinth) "Army", MS - H. G. Winslow, Army News-Agent $2 Undated (1862) Kraus 54978, Leggett UNL, Keller ME-SE200. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. The H. G. Winslow Army News-Agent notes are from a very rare Civil War military-related issuer, and it is ornately lithographed for this time period. Printed on greenish paper by Hutton & Freligh, prs., Memphis. Although men ride on top of the bales, there appears to be no driver of the horse-drawn wagon at upper right. The left end panel shows a standing Native American princess and seated Ceres. A perpendicular red TWO is in a cartouche at the right end. The base vignette shows the head of a dog in profile. To its left is a train traveling east. In red are, the denomination across, protector at upper left and issuer name. This note has "Corinth" crossed out with "Army" written underneath like the examples plated in the Keller sutler paper money book. Noted with "Small Stains," which consist of some scattered foxing. Overall, the note is very solid-bodied, bright and attractive. A very rare note and among the finest from the series. Corinth, Mississippi notes are well collected, and the military-related nature adds to its allure. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016).
