- (Corinth) "Army", MS - H. G. Winslow, Army News-Agent $2 Undated (1862) Kraus 54978, Leggett UNL, Keller ME-SE200. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. The H. G. Winslow Army News-Agent notes are from a very rare Civil War military-related issuer, and it is ornately lithographed for this time period. Printed on greenish paper by Hutton & Freligh, prs., Memphis. Although men ride on top of the bales, there appears to be no driver of the horse-drawn wagon at upper right. The left end panel shows a standing Native American princess and seated Ceres. A perpendicular red TWO is in a cartouche at the right end. The base vignette shows the head of a dog in profile. To its left is a train traveling east. In red are, the denomination across, protector at upper left and issuer name. This note has "Corinth" crossed out with "Army" written underneath like the examples plated in the Keller sutler paper money book. Noted with "Small Stains," which consist of some scattered foxing. Overall, the note is very solid-bodied, bright and attractive. A very rare note and among the finest from the series. Corinth, Mississippi notes are well collected, and the military-related nature adds to its allure. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). - Aberdeen, MS - County of Monroe 25 Cents March 1, 1862 Kraus 50690, Leggett UNL. PCGS Extremely Fine 45 Apparent. The Newman Collection continues to unveil amazing Southern rarities. Guy Kraus in his reference indicates this note is unreported, but here is an example in impressive condition. The small format note is printed on white paper. A simple double-ruled border is all around. At the upper left corner is a diminutive train car. Signatures, Walton and Jackson, are boldly accomplished on their respective "dotted lines," and the penned red serial number is vibrant. Grading notes "Small Holes at Right" that are not readily noticed and should not be a factor to the specialist. Wide margined, bright and a new note to the Mississippi Obsolete currency canon. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $517.00

- New Ulm, MN - Central Bank $2 18?? MN-90 G4a, Hewitt B380-D2b. PCGS Good 6 Apparent. The bank is very rare, and less than ten issued notes of all denominations are on the census. The opportunity to obtain an issued $2 may never return. The only four proofs from New Ulm sold for impressive prices in the April 2015 Newman Part VI sale. The layout and vignette details are quintessential Wellstood imprint styles. At the center, a steamboat heads down river with dark smoke coming from the stacks. In the bottom corners are an interesting paired set of seated female vignettes facing across the note. At the left is a Native American huntress and across, facing, an allegorical representation of History. The upper corners have matching "2" dies and ornate filigree. At bottom center is a red protector TWO. This is one of five issued notes of the type on the census. We sold a better, but not by that much, issued example last year for $1,057.50. Grading notes that this $2 is "Backed; Tape Repaired," but it is very collectible, despite a faded date and the listed faults. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society, Heritage Auctions Internet Sale (5/2016). (Description courtesy of Heritage Auctions, ha.com.) Realized $235.00
