At top center is a seated classical male, with structures in the background. The left panel shows a male portrait. The right end has a perpendicular TWENTY end panel. At top center is a "4" die flanked by Liberty and a seated Native American hunter. Intricate panels are at each end. Problem-free and a sharp-looking odd denomination type. Ex: Eric P. The vignette of seated Plenty holding an eagle at the top center is covered by the arced title. Counters are in all four corners with side portraits of Washington and Franklin at left and right respectively. In top condition for the type. Ex: Eric P. - Chattanooga, TN - A. Merritt, Griffin, Georgia 50 Cents October 1, 1862 Garland UNL. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. A rare Chattanooga issued note with a Griffin, Georgia payable and H.P. Hill & Co., Printers, Griffin, Ga. imprint. Printed on brown paper. The merchant name, denomination and counter surrounds at the top are in vibrant red. The text is across and payable "in Currency" at Chattanooga. Small vignettes are at the bottom: a small globe vignette at left, and the Georgia seal at right. Signed by Merritt at the bottom right. There are only some noted "Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." This example is much superior to the Alan Dorris Collection note we sold last January at the 2015 FUN auction for $211.50.
