This $100 note from Draper, Toppan & Co. also shows the cityscape as the background for a small train and a number of cars. Commerce is between denomination dies at the left end. A second Underwood, Bald, Spencer & Hufty India paper proof features Hebe and an eagle at top center. Corners show inward-facing cameo heads, and ends show a farm family at left and a sailor at right. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled." The top margin is a bit tight, but the impression is very bold. - Philadelphia, PA - Germantown and Perkiomen Turnpike Road Company 3 Cents Dec. 27, 1814 Hoober 305-762. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. A rare (listed as a Rarity-7 in Hoober) War of 1812-era scrip printed on laid paper. A wavy border is on three sides, the denomination and text are across, and THREE CENTS is perpendicular at the left end. The imprint of J.Y. Humphreys, Printer is at the bottom. Grading notes "Edge and Internal Tears," but the comments are a bit misleading as the note is wide margined and bright. Ex: Eric P. - Philadelphia, PA - Franklin Savings Bank $5 Sep. 15, 1838 Hoober 305-285. PCGS Very Fine 30. The issuer was not included in Haxby, but this is a demand note series and was worthy of being listed in his reference. Classically engraved plates by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Co. were used on this note. At top, right of center are Mercury, Moneta, and a griffin as used on the Bank of Ann-Arbor $10 in this sale. Mercury, Ceres, and Mechanic are at the left end, and an embodiment of Justice, Commerce, and Plenty is at the right end. This is a very stylish note from the engraver. Ex: Eric P. This note has no imprint, but the style is Fairman, Draper, Underwood & Co., and is noted in Haxby as such. At top center, Agriculture instructs children working at a forge, Washington is at the left end, and Franklin is at the right. - Kingfisher City, Territory of Oklahoma - Treasurer of the Village of Kingfisher City $1 Undated (1890s) Burgett 1, Durand OKT-8. PCGS Good 6. A rare Territorial issuer and interestingly designed note. Printed by Union Bank Note Co., K.C. MO. on thick paper. The face is printed in blue, and has a kingfisher perched on a branch at left. At lower right is a facing a Native American male with a solitary hair feather. Obligations are across with signature blocks, in this case not signed. The back is brown with a central cartouche showing an eagle flanked by a factory scene at left and farming scene at right. With honest wear only, and generally a clean note for the assigned grade. - Eufaula, Indian Territory (OK) - Tully Mercantile Co. $5 April 20, 1903 Burgett 18, Durand IT-33. PCGS Very Good 10 Apparent. A larger format scrip note printed on very thick paper on two sides, in blue, by Gast Bank Note St. Louis. The style is similar to lesser denominations from the series. A demure young girl (supposedly Naomi Tully) in fancy dress is at the left end. The denomination is across, with the title at bottom center. A Federal eagle copied from currency is at lower right. The intricate back shows the "C. H. Tully" building center (date "1898" at the crown). Signed by Tully. Noted with "Small Hole at Center; Ink Marks on Face and Back; Tape on Back." Ex: Eric P. - Coalgate, Ind. Ter. - J. B. McDougall Company Store 10 Cents in Merchandise Undated (1890s) Burgett UNL. Durand UNL. PCGS About Good 3. This is exceedingly rare and unlisted in Burgett and Durand. Burgett cites and illustrates a $1 note from the town and issuer, but not this denomination. This is in a smaller format than that plated $1 example, and is printed in blue. Both face and back have a facing locomotive at the right and geometric borders and patterns. The note is fairly solid for its assigned grade and still has substantial natural color. This Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson note shows Zeus at the upper left, as used on the Bank of Washtenaw $1 note in this sale. The central vignette shows Liberty with an eagle wearing a small Washington portrait; this image was also used on the Planters Bank of the State of Mississippi $100, also in this sale.
