- Sheboygan, WI - Bank of Sheboygan $3 18__ WI-735 G6a. Proof. PCGS Very Choice New 64. This is a second Proof from the earlier full red tinted series engraved and printed by Danforth, Wright & Co., but without an "ABC" monogram. India paper mounted on original card. Full red lace tinting across the note with a discreet white outlined "THREE" at bottom center. At top, slightly to right, is a shipyard scene. Intricate Durand dies are in three corners, with the State seal at lower right. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled" and "Mounted on Cardstock" as made. This is the last and most desirable denomination from the original Newman Collection proof sheet. Another gorgeous presentation from the highest period of Obsolete note artistry. Ex: Eric P. - Delavan, WI - Walworth County Bank $2 Oct. 1, 1855 WI-110 G2. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63. A rare Wisconsin bank with a few proofs known in private hands. This India paper proof was engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. The central vignette is adapted from the dies also used for the Woonsocket Falls, RI bank. The seated figure in the foreground was added. At the lower left, a blacksmith works at the forge. The Krause Collection example, which is the Haxby plate note, realized $2,530 in March 2010. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled" as made. This is the second of two examples from the Newman Collection sheet, making it the last available. Ex: Eric P. - Beaver Dam, WI - City Bank of Beaver Dam $1 18__ WI-30 G2. Proof. PCGS Choice New 63. This is a rare bank that failed or closed and issued only $1 notes. An issued note from this rare bank appeared in the Krause sale, but the four proofs without protector from the Newman Collection are the first we have encountered. This is the "D" and bottom position proof from the $1-$1-$1-$1 plate engraved and printed by Toppan, Carpenter & Co. Boldly printed on India paper mounted on cardstock. An elegant layout shows an inset portrait of a girl at the center, originally engraved in a longer view, under the banner titles. The lower left shows Plenty and Justice with a shield. This is a very well margined and evenly balanced type. Noted as "Hole Punch Cancelled" and "Mounted on Cardstock" as made. The $100 type from Keatinge & Ball has Governor Letcher at the center flanked by red "C" protectors. Washington is at the left, and a Native American princess is at the right. From the same imprint as the previous Exchange Bank of Virginia notes, with a Liberty Trampling Tyranny vignette at top center combined with transportation vignettes.
