Eric P. Newman Correspondence (Ford Jr., John J.), Eric P. Newman
La description:
The correspondence between Eric Newman and John Ford primarily involves discussion on trades and appraisals, research projects, and Ford's auction activities. Their frequent correspondence ends abruptly in early August, just before the American Numismatic Association held an arbitration hearing on the topic of the authenticity of several western assay bars, which involved Paul Franklin and John J. Ford Jr.. Newman contributed considerably to the ANA's investigation. Only one letter from Ford appears in the file after the events of the arbitration- a hand-written note on die molds. Ford passed away in 2005, but Newman has letters with others on the topic of Ford, as well as newspaper clippings and ephemera dated up to 2013.
Included in the correspondence file for 1966 but not reproduced here are the following articles: 1) Two partial copies of a Stack's catalogue for the John J. Ford Jr. Collection auction, Part 1, dated October 14, 2003. 2) Printout from the July 8th, 2005 issue of the E-Sylum, a copy of John J. Ford Jr.'s obituary, written by Wayne Homren. 3) Two clippings (duplicates) of a New York Times obituary titled "John J. Ford Jr., 81, Dies; Coin Dealer and Collector" by Douglas Martin. 4) Clipping of a memorial ad spread written by "The Stack Family and Staff" from the July 26, 2005 edition of Numismatic News. 5) Printout of an email containing an article from the July 2005 MCA Advisory, with an article titled "John J. Ford Jr.: A Brief Retrospective" by John W. Adams. 6) Copy of the Summer 2005 issue of The Asylum, known as the "Ford Edition", featuring articles on the late John J. Ford, Jr. 7) Clipping of the obituary section of the September 2005 edition of The Numismatist, featuring John J. Ford Jr.'s obituary. 8) Printout of a photocopy of an undated Coin World article titled "Numisma Draws Sharp Battle Lines", which was a Q&A between Dick Johnson and John J. Ford, Jr.
