This historic institution was exempted, by an Act of Congress, from the requirement that all banks accepting a federal charter under the National Banking Act use the word "National" somewhere in its title. All notes from this bank are avidly collected. This example shows dark printed signatures and even, problem free wear. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Descrizione:: Saint Louis, MO - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 608 National City Bank Ch. # 11989 PCGS Very Fine 30PPQ. This bank rode the financial wave of the Roaring Twenties, and then liquidated shortly after the Stock Market Crash of 1929. Bold signatures, good color, and solid embossing are seen on this note. Descrizione:: Kansas City, MO - $5 1902 Plain Back Fr. 601 The National Reserve Bank Ch. # (M)9677 PCGS Very Fine 35. A popularly titled bank, which liquidated in October 1920 after a mere ten years of operation. The blue overprint is quite vivid on this lightly folded example that displays bright paper and strong embossing. Ex: Eric P. Newman Numismatic Education Society. Descrizione:: Fr. 737 $1 1918 Federal Reserve Bank Note PCGS Very Fine 20. Embossing is visible on this attractive, moderately circulated Kansas City $1. The appealing Eagle with Flag vignette on the back was engraved by Robert Ponickau (1846-1920). Several of his other engravings featured eagles as well. He began working at the BEP on Oct. 16, 1893. The third printing is shifted substantially to the right, a not terribly important error on a regular note but a significant misprint on a star note which already was a replacement for an incorrectly printed specimen. Low numbers from this district appear to be quite elusive, with Track & Price listing only one such offering during the past decade; that piece, bearing serial number H00000002A and graded Choice New 64 fetched over $3,000. Descrizione:: Paris, MO - $5 Original Fr. 399a The First NB Ch. # 1803 PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. First Charters only from this Paris bank, the first of three to issue in this small county seat community. The National Bank Note Census shows just five examples, all $1 notes, with only one grading as high as Fine. Most have been closely held for years, with Track & Price reporting only two offerings at public sale since 1990. This example is the first $5 to surface from this institution, and, as an Original Series $5, is a scarce type from a Missouri bank.
