Early Paper Money of America (NNP Edition)|

£100,000 in Bills authorized by the April 12, 1760 Act. The two highest denominations are printed in red and black on both face and back by Benjamin Franklin and David Hall. The pence denominations are small in size and have typeset backs. The number of crowns is keyed to the denominations from 5s through 20s. Detector specimens were printed on blue paper. An Act of April 17, 1761 for an additional £30,000 in 50s and £5 bills was disapproved by the Governor.

It is in the horizontal "Crown" format, plate position A, and has a small crown in the center to identify the denomination. A well-balanced note on both sides. Beschreibung:: Pennsylvania May 1, 1760 5 Pounds Fr. PA-114. PCGS Very Fine 20 Apparent. A second superior-grade 5 pounds from this B. Franklin and D. Hall-imprinted series. Plate A. The signatures of Joseph Saunders and Henry Harrison are strong while that of Joseph Morris is faint yet discernable. The back shows a three-leaf nature print that shows fine details. This is quite choice and the noted "Pinholes" from PCGS are perhaps a little harsh for an example exhibiting vibrant red color details and superior paper for the series and type. Printed on a thinner paper than some earlier Franklin and Hall notes. This type uses two-color text printing on both sides, though a little more subtly on the back. Plate B. The broad margins at the top and left really stand out and enhance its tremendous face appeal. The other margins are excellent for the type. The three leaves in the nature print on the back display their intricate structure. The red in the color type areas is bright. The three signatures of Joseph King, Thomas Tilbury, and Thomas Gordon remain crisp. Noted with some "Small Edge Splits" by PCGS Currency grading. Those are minor faults considering the broad margins and fullness of the note. There is a crossed out endorsement in the back right border, and a small foxing patch appears on the Arms. Beschreibung:

Pennsylvania April 25, 1759 5 Pounds Fr. PA-102. PCGS Very Fine 25 Apparent. This is a very distinctive Franklin and Hall printed note using a two-color process. The face of the note is featured on the color plates on page 53 of the fifth edition of The Early Paper Money of America. The highest denomination from the act. The face layout is similar to others from the period, but there is interspersed red text within the black text and border cuts. The top border is red. The back also has a red denomination and counterfeit warning with the nature print in between. Plate A. Three nicely penned signatures are at the bottom. This is noted with "Small Edge Splits; Minor Mounting Remnants on Back." A superior note of this major type and with very vibrant color. Much bolder than the plate B note we sold in Newman Part VII for $940 in October 2015. A top-caliber note exemplifying the Franklin and Hall two-color printing technique. Ex: Eric P. Pennsylvania May 1, 1760 20 Shillings Fr. PA-112. PCGS Extremely Fine 40 Apparent. A beautiful B. Franklin and D. Hall imprint note with sharp printing on both sides. Plate A. Boldly signed by George Morrison, Joseph Parker, and James Eddy (the signers for this and other period series are numerous). Noted with "Minor Mounting Remnants and Paper Pulls on Back Corners." The petty back corner faults do not disturb the overall impact of this crisp and vibrant example. An old Boyd pencil code of "mryx" is on the bottom back edge.
