While the tops of AMERICA are merged into the reverse border, this piece has sharpness finer than the NGC grade, and exhibits pleasing dark brown surfaces with minimal, trivial marks. While the tops of AMERICA are merged into the reverse border, this piece has sharpness finer than the NGC grade, and exhibits pleasing dark brown surfaces with minimal, trivial marks. 1812 1C Large Date, S-289, B-4, R.1 -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. XF. Both sides exhibit heavy flow lines on this late die state, with ED S on the reverse weakened. Cleaned and retoned in bluish-steel with traces of faded orange on the reverse. Clearly more attractive than our description suggests. Our EAC grade VF25. Ex: "Colonel" E.H.R. An apparent early die state, although most of the die anomalies described in the Breen Large Cent Encyclopedia are only visible on substantially higher-grade coins. This attractive piece has smooth olive surfaces with insignificant, grade-consistent handling marks. The minor obverse rim damage from 7 to 8 o'clock is hidden under the tab of the holder.
