Early Paper Money of America (NNP Edition)|£10,000 (£6,500 plus £3,000 for exchange for worn bills plus a £500 reserve) authorized by the Mar. 23, 1736/37 Act and April 1, 1737 Order. These were engraved on two copper plates of four bills each, with an elaborate top border on the four lower denominations. Subsequently referred to as Cuba plates because of the reuse of the large denomination plate for financing the Cuban expedition in 1740. An additional £900 was authorized on Feb. 5, 1739/40. The plates for the four lowest denominations are still in existence.
