Brabandsche Leeuw Público Deposited

Definición
  • The popular name for the double Gros which was struck in Brabant and Flanders early in the fifteenth cen- tury. The name signifies " pot carrier, " the allusion being to the helmet on the lion's head which looks like an inverted pot or kettle. See van der Chijs (p. 123- 125).

The type was copied in the various prov- inces of the Low Countries, and the coin is also referred to as the Brabandsche Leeuw and the Gehelmde Leeuw. See Heaume.
