• Born in St. Louis, Missouri. Married Nancy Jo Wolfe September 4, 1955. They have four children. Received B.S. from Fresno State College in 1960. Attended George Washington University 1962-65; MPA from Indiana University in 1966.

  Employed with Morrison-Knudson, Inc. in Anchorage 1955 to 1957; government agencies 1961 to 1977; vice president International Paper Company 1977 to 1981; senior vice president 1981-85; director 1985-87. CEO of Alcoa Inc. 1987 to 1999.

  Served as Secretary of the Treasury January 20, 2001, to December 31, 2002.
