Biografia
  • Born in Bloomington, Indiana. Composer of ‘Star Dust” and other hits.

    Graduated from Indiana University in 1925 and Indiana School of law in 1926. He had an undistinguished career with an Indiana law firm. Married to Ruth Menardi in 1935 with a son. Employed as a songwriter for Paramount Studios. He lived in the former mansion of William P. Wrigley, Jr. Married Dorothy Wanda McKay in 1977. 

    He appeared in 14 movies singing his songs. He won an Academy Award in 1951 for best original song (In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening). He also appeared on television. 

    He died of heart failure in a hospital in Rancho Mirage, California. 

    He was not known publicly as a coin collector until after his death. His collection was sold at auction by Superior in January 1985.
