  • National Archives description: Letters Sent, 1795-1804; Aug. 1824-June 1835. Chiefly fair copies of letter from the Director of the Mint to the Secretary of the Treasury; from other Government officials; and from private persons, including Mathew R. Boulton. Included are copies of annual reports on operations of the mint; copies of titles and deeds, 1787-1829, to certain Philadelphia properties purchased for the United States Mint Building; and copies of rules and regulations issued by the Director of the Mint. The correspondence is arranged chronologically.

    R. W. Julian notes: Letter books. 1795-1835. There are 6 letter books, all Fair Copies. The dates are overlapping but cover 1795-1835. Dates covered: a: 1796-1804, b: 1796-1817, c: 1795-1824, d: 1818-1819, e: 1824-1831, and f: 1824-1835. See also Entry 162. The letter books (all Fair Copies) heavily overlap each other and there is considerable duplication of letters.
