McAuliffe, (Sharon) Christa Pubblico Deposited
- Born as Sharon Corrigan in Boston on September 2, 1948. Graduated from Framingham State College in 1970 and M.A. from Bowie State University in 1978.
She married Steven J. McAuliffe in 1970. They had two children. Teacher at Concord High School in New Hampshire.
She was selected from more than 11,000 applicnts to become the first “teacher in space” and was scheduled to fly on the STS-51-F mission. The spacecraft exploded on January 28, 1986, killing McAuliffe and six other crew members.
A Public Law was passed in 2019 to create a commemorative silver dollar for McAuliffe to be issued in 2021. - 1948-09-02
