Early Paper Money of America (NNP Edition)|After attempting to organize in 1784 the Bank of Maryland was incorporated in 1790 with a $300,000 capital and opened for business on July 1, 1791. Engraved notes contain plate numbers instead of plate letters. Only the “1” of this date is engraved so the notes could be used during the two centuries. The notes contain blank backs. The signers of its first engraved notes were William Patterson, president, and Ebenezer Mackie, cashier.
