Early Paper Money of America (NNP Edition)|Printed small change demand notes of Stephen West, a merchant of Upper Marlborough, payable to bearer at the rate of 7s6d to the Spanish Dollar. They were issued for the convenience of himself and his neighbors and were payable by Robert Couden and Nathan Hamond of Annapolis, etc., to be withdrawn when the legislators or merchants provide adequate small money. Witnessed by Jonas Green and William Rind, printers. Exact form for each denomination is detailed in the Maryland Gazette of August 27, 1761 along with his announcement of its preparation. Actual issuance is uncertain.
