Early Paper Money of America (NNP Edition)|£320 in private unauthorized Notes of James Murray payable to bearer and purporting to be receivable for Quit Rents and other amounts due to the Colony in four North Carolina counties. Certified by John Rutherford as Receiver General. Murray was unwilling to accept his own notes except for goods sold at high prices and for delinquent debts. The issue was invalid by the Governor on Dec. 5, 1757. Both Murray and Rutherford were suspended from their public offices for their action.
