In my recent numismatic diary I wrote: The lighting at our meetings always leaves something to be desired. I should bring an extension cord and lamp in addition to the magnifier I usually manage to forget and leave in my car.
In response Joe Boling writes: For light wherever you need it, try one of the flashlights being sold by several dealers these days. I got mine from Tim Kyzivat. It is 4.75" long and 7/8" in diameter. It uses two 123 batteries and has five very bright LED bulbs. I carry it in an elastic holster on my belt and use it constantly. The batteries last about a year.
In addition to general utility (like, when there is a power failure), I use it for all manner of numismatic purposes, especially judging exhibits - I never have to worry about how dim the hall's lights are, or if they have been turned to half-power for the evening hours. It's the best $50 investment I ever made. It is totally unmarked, but came with packaging identifying it as an Inova X5MT-WB LED floodlight. Made in China, no doubt.
