Hi all,
I only recently found out about this list, and joined as soon as I did. Looking over the membership list on the e-groups site, I see quite a few familiar names and/or email addresses. It's nice to be back in touch with those of you whom I already know, and I look forward to getting to know the rest of you.
Since I subscribe to a number of different email lists, I have chosen to receive this group's postings (and some others') in Digest form. This means that I have to go to the egroups site to view attachments, but that's much more convenient for me than receiving large email files all throughout the day. It also reduces exposure to viruses.
I have found much of the discussion on the list thus far interesting. I do have one suggestion for improvement, if I may be so bold. Most other lists that I am on recommend (or even "require") that replies to a message not include the entire text of the message being replied to, but rather just enough of a snippet to identify it. This is particularly important when one is the fourth or fifth person to reply, and all the previous replies are included in the message. Trimming the previous text makes for much smaller messages, which are much easier to read, much easier to store, and much faster to download, especially when one is on a dialup connection. Again, I apologize if this suggestion is out of order, but it it just that - a suggestion. But, I should add that we had an interesting case on a running-related list, where someone posted a very detailed, interesting, and moving report on a long run they had completed, and there were dozens of replies stating simply "Way to go!" or "Congratulations!" or the like, but each of which included the entire 50K+ text of the original post. Mailboxes filled up pretty quickly, and a number of people quit the list due to the inconvenience of it all.
In any event, please keep the valuable information and great photos coming!
