Jeff,
It's early in the morning so may be I'm missing something. What
question do yo mean wiuth St Pats and Voce? Are they made from the
same metal as anotehr specific coin of the era? I thought we know
when they were made and both in England.
On the confederation era coppers my guess is that the copper doesn't
vary enough between mints or even continents to answer the good
questions but if I can get permission to put enough samples in the
reactor, I'd like to try some of these. I'll let the list know what
I end up doing.
I'd also like to learn more about totally nondestructive methods.
Neutron Activiation analysis (NAA) uses a tiny (about 10 microgram)
smaple scraped off the edge of a coin but you have to clean an area
about 1 square mm to make sure that the 10 microgram sample is from
the coin not surface corrosion. That's one thing with a Connecticut
or even an Immunis Columbia, but it can be more difficult to get
permission for an Immune Columbia or Brasher.
