Hello Group,
RE: Copper Composition of Voce Populi
I would find it interesting to know the metal composition of Voce Populi
coppers for the following reasons:
1) W. Breen stated that some are of a brassy appearance--this would hint of
the copper a zinc additive as used in makin brass
2) English Regal coppers of the period were noted as being of superior copper
3) the copper composition of counterfeits were noted as being of an inferior
or cheaper "commercial" copper composition
4) the use of zinc or inferior/"commercial" grade copper would increase the
profit to be derived from manufacturing said coins
I would welcome additional information as to the copper composition of
coppers of the colonial era as it would add to our / my general understanding
.
THANKS,
