The British were good at cranking out tokens as well as counterfeits,
I suppose, even though it may not be contemporary with the date on
it, that technically it could be considered evasive in nature. Its
hard to tell with these things, but I've seen very similar items
described in catalogs I've gotten from dealers in England. Knowing
this, I'd simply call it a token. Perhaps I'll dig out some of those
old catalogs and see if I can find it listed.
